2022 British Open leaderboard breakdown: Cameron Smith rockets to top as Rory McIlroy stays hot in Round 2

The second round of the 150th Open Championship featured a little bit of everything on Friday. It began with fans sending Tiger Woods off in the grandest of fashions as the 15-time major winner’s playing career at St. Andrews may have come to a close with a missed cut this week. Walking down the 18th fairway to a standing ovation, tears rolled from Woods’ eyes as he thought back on his crowning achievements at the Home of Golf and of the previous legends of the game to receive a similarly warm goodbye from the people of St. Andrews.

Fans again rose to their feet hours later, albeit for a different reason, as Cameron Smith signed an 8-under 64 to set the 36-hole scoring record for an Open at the Old Course. Sitting at 13 under for the championship, the long-haired Australian looks to be in complete control of his game as he has racked up 12 birdies and an eagle against just a single bogey through his first two rounds.

And then you have Rory McIlroy, who while still looking for his first major championship since 2014, put himself in exceptionally strong position at this Open. McIlroy remained hot playing in one of the final pairings of the day and now sits just three strokes back of Smith entering Moving Day.

Five of the last six 36-hole leaders at The Open have gone on to win, and Smith should give a fine effort over the weekend in continuing this trend. Meanwhile, each of the last seven Open winners at St. Andrews have been T4 or better after two rounds with 14 of the last 15 sitting within three shots of the lead after 36 holes.

Here is the breakdown of the rest of the leaderboard

Winners and losers of MLB’s opening weekend: Alex Bregman, Mets off to hot starts; Brewers, D-Backs struggle

The first weekend of Major League Baseball’s 2022 season is in the books. While best practices suggest the smart way to approach the game is with patience and discipline, we here like to lean into the entertainment aspect now and then.

Consider, for example, this annual piece, in which we name winners and losers from the season’s first weekend. Will anyone remember who started hot (or cold) in a few weeks, let alone in October? Probably not. It’s this or worrying about all the world’s existential threats, though, and we know which way we’d rather pass time.

Now, let’s get toit.

Winner: New-look Mets

Sure, the Mets played the Nationals, but you can only play the schedule you’re given. The important thing is the Mets took care of business against a weaker foe, winning the first three games of a four-game set before the bullpen cost them Sunday’s affair. Offseason additions paved the way: Starling Marte, Mark Canha and Eduardo Escobar combined for 13 hits while Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt struck out 14 batters versus six hits and two walks in 12 innings of work. The Mets will see the Phillies next in what should be a more competitive and entertaining series between National League East foes.

Milwaukee remains the overwhelming favorite in the NL Central. That doesn’t mean this weekend’s series versus the Cubs was easy to stomach for Brewers fans, who had to watch their club lose a one-run game on Opening Day then get blown out on Saturday. Thankfully, the Brew Crew edged the Cubs for their first win on Sunday. The immediate road will get easier for the Brewers, who will conclude a brief road trip with three games in Baltimore against the Orioles.

The Yankees schedule had them opening with seven consecutive games at

Hot market for collectibles transforms toys into serious business – Post Bulletin

ROCHESTER — It’s a bird? It’s a plane? No — it’s the sky-high prices for vintage toys and collectibles!

Retailers say they’re still seeing a COVID-fueled interest in vintage toys, comic books, sports cards and collectible card games.

“People had extra time, extra income from the (stimulus) checks and people started using that as disposable income,” said Brad Vigesaa, co-owner of Nerdin Out pop culture and comic book store.

While the spread of the virus has for now eased, most collectibles remain in high demand and, with that demand, carry high prices.

For business partners Scott Bacon and Aaron Ringer, high prices and high demand have led to a high volume in their sales. The two opened Midwest Vintage Toys next door to the Machine Shed video game store and arcade in November.

“Let’s be real, the pandemic was a grim time,” Bacon said. “You can find comfort in those memories.”

“I think it reignited a passion for people’s childhoods,” Ringer said.

High demand and high prices has led to high volume business for the pair. They sell about 150 toys and action figures per week. Most of them are sold and sent by mail via their eBay store.

When not pairing the figures and toys with their accessories and bagging them for sale, the two are hunting for childhood collections to buy.

“So many people don’t realize what’s sitting in their attic,” Bacon said.

NBA coaching hot seat: With Luke Walton fired, Frank Vogel, Dwane Casey, Stephen Silas could be next to go

Luke Walton’s firing was almost inevitable. The Sacramento Kings have missed the playoffs 15 years in a row and is now on their 11th coach in that span. Monte McNair didn’t hire Walton, but he oversaw many of Walton’s failures both tactically and within his locker room. He was the obvious first NBA coach to be fired of the 2021-22 season.

There isn’t an obvious second. Of the other nine teams currently outside of the play-in picture, six have coaches in their first two seasons, and two of the others have coaches who have won championships for their current employer. There has been no substantial reporting regarding specific coaches who are in danger, nor are their any clear situations in which a coach and his top basketball executive don’t fit. We could all predict who the first coach to be fired would be because he deserved to be fired based on what had happened over the course of multiple seasons. The next coach who gets fired will lose his job because of what happens this season, and it’s still so new that making any firm predictions would be impossible.

Even if we can’t figure out exactly who’s coming next, we can at least speculate about who’s under pressure. Three coaches stand out as obvious hot seat choices now that Walton has been fired.

Casey fits the traditional profile of a coach on the hot seat. Detroit is now in its third season as a lottery team having won exactly 20 games in back-to-back seasons. He was not hired by top basketball executive Troy Weaver, and while he extended his
